At the beginning of this year I made a public commitment to cook my way through an entire cookbook. After polling my amazing community (read: YOU!) for ideas, I chose beloved food blogger Danielle Walker’s best-selling masterpiece, Against All Grain.
Given the dismal statistics surrounding New Year’s resolutions — although I refused to call it that … notice how I said commitment instead? — I came up with a plan for making steady progress (make just one recipe per week) and keeping myself accountable (text pictures of my creations to a friend). Overlooking these two key elements of any good plan account for the majority of New Year’s resolution fails.
Three months into the process, I’m happy to report that I’m still “on the wagon,” things are going very well, and my husband and children have been delighted with their taste-testing role.
Here are our top 5 favourite recipes so far.
#1 Beef tacos (pg. 146)
#2 Mexican burgers (pg. 164) & smoky roasted sweet potatoes (pg. 222)
#3 Roasted beet and bacon salad (pg. 92)
#4 Italian wedding soup (pg. 82)
#5 Nut free granola (pg. 60)
If you don’t own Against All Grain, I highly recommend it — even if you don’t subscribe to “Paleo,” “Primal,” or any particular way of eating. The only requirement is your enjoyment of incredibly delicious tasting, wholesome food.
Now I’d love to hear from you. What recipe should I try next from Against All Grain? If you don’t own this cookbook, do you have a favourite you can recommend? I may just decide to make that one my next challenge!
Thanks for reading,
Carolyn
