Can you believe it’s almost that time of year again?
Summer has flown by once again and kids will be returning to school in just a few short days — which means that parents across the country are thinking about what will go in their lunches. For real food parents, that means no sandwiches. And since most schools are nut-free, that means no nuts either. You may be wondering what else remains?
Maybe this video will give you some ideas. It features my 8-year old son giving a tour of his typical school lunch, which got a lot of attention on my Facebook page a few months ago when we shot it. He knows his stuff, because for the past five years he’s never once taken a sandwich to school for lunch.
As you can see, we like to keep things super simple (because if it was hard, we’d never stick with it!). A protein source, some veggies, yogurt, fruit, and a sweet treat. And repeat times 10 months.
Now I want to hear from you. What do your kids love in their school lunches? And do you have any ideas, tips, or strategies for making lunches easier to prepare and pack? Let’s help each other out by leaving a comment below.

These Primal Poppers are amazing! I have never met a kid (or adult) who doesn’t love these. The recipe can be found here: http://www.livingprimal.ca/recipes/primal-protein-balls

HI Carolyn, is there a nut free substitute for the almond butter?
Great question. For school I use sunflower seed butter and the kids and I love it (even prefer it!). Carolyn
Where would I get the crackers?
I buy the crackers at Costco 🙂
Thank you!! Will try this version for sure.
You won’t be disappointed 🙂
